You have finished installing your shop Prestashop and have started using it. To make it fully operational you will need to complete your product catalog.

For this two solutions available:

  1. You can read our previous article on adding product in your store Prestashop. But add the products one by one can take time.
  2. Use a nice feature of Prestashop who can import your product catalog, several items at once (or even hundreds) with an array CSV .

To run this, simply use a spreadsheet such as Microsoft Excel or OpenOffice Calc (which is free).

This table should have the column headings on the first line and the description of each product on the following. You can download this sample file (right click and save as), and complete for each of your products.

The last column: Category shall indicate the ID of the category in which you want to add the product. You can find this ID in the catalog of the administrative part of your store. To the left of each category name is this identifier.

Example on the picture to the right if you want to add a product in the category: Ipods you must enter two (If the parent category "Home" is the ID of 1).

The only drawback of this tool is for you to complete manually by following certain information: such as photos or taxes. For example you can get the sales price excluding VAT (tax will default to 19.6%). You will have after the import of products, complete one by one.

But the import of products from a CSV file is still a significant time savings. It also allows you, if you use other software to manage your online store , export your catalog produced from it and bring it back into Prestashop.

The ticket is not a place where every developer shows his skills ... (and at this point several hours is a long time ...).

Importing images is quite possible and not too difficult for a developer anyway.

I'm a few hours.

To import images, there are many solutions certainly not "simple". However you can do in SQL queries. But this is only for advanced users!
