You have finished installing your shop Prestashop and have started using it. To make it fully operational you will need to complete your product catalog.

For this two solutions available to you:

  1. You can read our previous article on adding product into your PrestaShop store. But add the products one by one can take time.
  2. Use a nice feature of Prestashop who can import your product catalog, several items at once (or even hundreds) with an array CSV .

To perform this operation, you simply use a spreadsheet like Microsoft Excel or OpenOffice Calc (which is free).

This table should have the column headings on the first line and the description of each product on the following. You can download this example file (right click and save as), and complete for each of your products.

The last column: Category, must specify the ID of the category in which you want to add the product. You can find this ID in the catalog of the admin of your store. To the left of each category name is this identifier.

Example on the picture to the right if you want to add a product in the category: you must enter two Ipods (If it's in the parent category "Home" is the ID of 1).

The only drawback of this tool is for you to complete manually by following certain information: such as photos or taxes. For example you can get the sales price excluding VAT (tax will default to 19.6%). You'll need after the import of products, complete one by one.

But the import of products from a CSV file is still a significant time saver. It also allows you, if you use other software to manage your online store , export your catalog produced from it and bring it back into Prestashop.

The ticket is not a place where every developer shows his skills ... (and at this point several hours is a long time ...).

Importing images is entirely possible and not very complicated, for a developer anyway.

I'm in a few hours.

To import images, there is certainly not many solutions "simple". However you can do in SQL queries. But this is only for advanced users!
